What do you think about Haverford College?

Liberal Arts Colleges generally offer one expansive area of study, whereas at universities, the same major may be broken into two or more degree tracks. Basically, at Columbia you will find Economics-Politics, Econ-Stat etc, but and Vassar (an LAC) your degree will just be Economics, and requirements for the course will be much thinner, allowing you to take a much broader range of classes in different disciplines - it's super expansive. Also because your Bachelor's Degree is 4 years in the US, compared to the UK's 3, that extra year doing the same degree allows for more time to take courses in different fields.

There's much more to LACs that make them attractive, though..

What's special about LACs?

The goal is more on to challenging their beliefs, to make them critical thinkers, and to poise them to become global citizens, as opposed to train students for a career.

One obvious reason to choose a liberal arts school is to ensure that the focus is learning, as opposed to training for a future career. A liberal arts student’s time spent in college is more focused on preparing for life, as opposed to work, with the belief that their skills will translate into a variety of career paths.

Others may choose a liberal arts college simply because they don’t want what they see as a “typical” college experience. Athletics and Greek life tend to be much smaller scenes at liberal arts colleges, which some students prefer.

Even if you know a liberal arts college is right for you, you still have to find the right one for you. Here’s a look at the top LACs in the US. One might be the right one for you. Rankings are here to help demonstrate quality, because there are much fewer LACs than unis, so the drop-off in quality of college is faster.
